As a Journeyperson Signals Electrician/Technician, you will be responsible for the construction and maintenance of Traffic Signals, Communications and Light Rail Transit (LRT) Signal systems. Primary duties include: • Install, construct, repair, and troubleshoot LRT signals, communications, and equipment. • Inspect and test the operation of gate crossing, switch machines, and interlockings. • Configure, test and wire traffic signal cabinets, intersections, signalized crosswalks, and detection systems. • Install and program communications equipment including radios, fibre optics and cellular components. • Install and repair steel structures for traffic signals. • Troubleshoot and repair traffic signals, signalized crosswalks and detection systems. • Perform maintenance on Digital Message Signs, Pan-Tilt-Zoom cameras and other intelligent traffic system equipment. Qualifications • A completed 2 year diploma in Electronics Engineering Technology; OR • A valid Journeyperson Electrician certificate, or equivalent as recognized by the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training Board. • At least 3 years experience as a Journeyperson Electrician or as an Electronic Engineering Technologist is required. • A valid Full Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent), with no more than 6 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending is required. • Knowledge of relay components and logic, fibre switching, and DC power systems is required. • Ability to read and interpret logic programming, electronics/electro mechanical, and civil schematic drawings is required. • A valid Class 3 Driver's License with 'Q' endorsement will be considered an asset. • Ability to work well and exercise good judgement and diplomacy under pressure, while dealing with multiple interested parties, responsibilities, and projects. • Must be able to collaborate and work cohesively in a team environment. Working Conditions: This position will perform work in an outdoor environment, with exposure to various heights, weather conditions, confined space, noise, LRT right of ways, roadways, electrical and mechanical hazards. As a Journeyman Electrician, you will be responsible for the service, repair, installation and operation of all electrical equipment, controls and components located in Calgary Housing multi-family residential buildings. Primary duties include: • Receive and respond to service calls for preventative maintenance, demand repairs, contractor support, or troubleshooting for multiple types of equipment. • Work with fire alarm systems, generators, power distribution, control systems, lighting, tenant power and other types of equipment and components. • Assist with creation of project and contract scopes related to electric installations. • Assist with oversight of recurring vendor work and projects related to electrical installations. • Conduct electrical thermography scans to uncover hidden issues, anomalies, or hotspots that may indicate electrical problems. • Conduct gas detection system testing and calibration. Qualifications • A completed Journeyman Electrical certification or equivalent Interprovincial Red Seal, recognized by Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training. • At least 3 years of directly related experience at the Journeyman level in multi-family residential service work including apartment towers, walk up apartment buildings, and row housing. • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of all building system controls (both electric and pneumatic) as well as heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems is required. • A valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending. • Preference may be given to applicants who have completed the Level 1 Thermography course. • Experience in servicing, installation, and testing of residential fire alarm systems will be considered an asset. Working Conditions: This position will travel between residential buildings and is exposed to noise, dirt, dust, limited spaces, bodily fluids, pests, hot and cold temperatures as well as electrical equipment and high voltage. Pre-employment Requirements • A security clearance and Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS) will be conducted. • Must obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit. • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
