Position Summary

Function/Purpose:

The Electrical Distribution Designer reports to the Senior Distribution Engineer of the Electric Light & Power section. Work includes the design and maintenance of distribution, transmission, and street lighting facilities. Key duties include:

  • Prepare designs and estimates related to new construction and system modifications to the City’s electrical distribution system
  • Provide support in general office duties related to design including copying and distribution of drawings, entering estimates on the computer, ordering of materials, and field checking.
  • Draft projects using AutoCad and Intergraph's GeoMedia GIS software / ArchGIS & ESRI software.
  • Coordinate projects and provide excellent customer service.

Job Requirements:

  • Relevant Technology disciplines with demonstration of applicable experience or
  • Tradesperson with certification in related field and or demonstration of applicable experience or
  • Grade 12 with experience equivalent to diploma may be considered.
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License.
  • Experience in electric power system design, operation and maintenance is preferred.
  • Understanding of surveying and land administration practices is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with Intergraph GeoMedia, ArchGIS & ESRI, AutoCad or equivalent CAD software is preferred.
  • Proficient in the use of Word-processor, spreadsheet and database software.
  • Good written and verbal communications skills are very important
  • Some familiarity with project management processes would be beneficial.

Hours of Work: 80 hours biweekly. Some field assignments with line crews may be required at times.
