Now Hiring Power Systems Electrician

The City of Medicine Hat Utility Distribution Department requires a dynamic individual to join our team in the role of Power Systems Electrician. This highly responsible, complex technical position is responsible for the planning, design, coordination, construction, and maintenance of the City’s Electric Distribution systems. The successful candidate will be able to exercise considerable initiative and judgment in on-site decision-making.

As our ideal candidate, you are highly organized, versatile, and adaptable, have a great attitude towards safety and have effective communication skills to constructively and creatively deal with challenging situations when they arise. You are able to operate and troubleshoot specialized computer programs, are committed to promoting a safe and environmentally compliant workplace, and are able to climb ladders, work from aerial bucket trucks and work outside for extended periods in adverse weather conditions.

Required Qualifications:

  • One of the following:

o Journeyman Power Systems Electrician (Alberta-certified) with three (3) years of direct experience work within an Electric Transmission and Distribution system; or

o Electrical Engineering Technologist graduate with three (3) to five (5) years of direct experience working within an Electric Transmission and Dsitribution system

  • Possess and maintain a Class 5 Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record;
  • An equivalent combination of management approved education and experience may be considered.

This position has been identified as Safety Sensitive and requires the completion of a satisfactory pre-employment drug screen.
